Rape, Murder, Molestations, Harassment's….have become a part of daily life but still we purposefully avoid the seriousness of issues. And this is well recognized and projected effectively by our loyal consumerism promoting Fourth Estate (who by the way follow point-blank guidelines set by the elite and socially powerful individuals)
In fact they even go to an extent of justifying their media content by labeling themselves as “Infotainment Channels” and not merely the clear cut/ straightforward “News Channels”.
You see “News Channels” need to have a political stand on issues,
They have to be a responsible media,
They have be mirrors of our society,
They need focus to be the “change elements”……………. Unfortunately this is asking for too much from our celebrity crazed, advertisement dependent, TRP bound News …uhm.. Sorry Infotainment channels.
The numerous problems of evictions, displacements and lopsided development projects do not find their place in today’s media:
Instead celebrity wedding, birthday bashes, anniversary celebrations find attention………
Reality is not merely ignored by them
But they go to an extremity to deny its existence!
The focus of today's media clearly rests with the IPL or absurd stories about a cine star's visit to Tirupathi ;still juicier if accompanied by a person of the opposite sex....(Gossip columns would seriously have to relearn their trade from our mainstream media)
Cover stories highlight the spending pattern of the elite, shopping tips for the tech savvy and the best yet how children of today spend their pocket money!!!
I guess stories of children dying from starvation deaths, human rights violations that happen in our states of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand or the North East, the plight of migrant laborers displaced without livelihood options, or the assaults on women due to communal violence, indigenous tribes displacement issues and forced out villages due to lopsided schemes for the benefit of few do not qualify as news to their serious standards.
Instead individual high profile cases (concerning the elite class) are spiced up and repeatedly telecast to our audiences.... the sad part of this is that even this is not followed up effectively and remain as gruesome crime that happened at so and so place during so and so time.
With serious lack of clarity and more important commitment, JOURNALISM of our day can be classified as unresolved death due to murder........................

Making a small issue flashing 100 times a day in a channel make people to think it is a big issue. There has been a class created who are much obsessed watching and following these damn channels.
Alas, they are also humans who fear for basic theartens in this society. Then why do they provoke them as they serve to society?
It's better to be defeated on Principles than to win on lies.
